John Carpenter to Direct "Fangland"

John Carpenter signs on to Fangland

John Carpenter has been hired to direct an adaptation of the 2007 novel "Fangland" by John Marks. Marks was a former producer of "60 Minutes". The film will reportedly have a feel similar to Bram Stoker's Dracula (though the setting will be in a post 9/11 New York).

According to Variety.com, the movie will be produced by DAS Films and Blumhouse Productions. Mark Wheaton ("Friday the 13th") wrote the screenplay adaptation.

Fangland will focus on a New York-based producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a well known European weapons dealer, who also happens to be a modern-day Dracula.

Carpenter's currently in post-production on the horror film "The Ward" for indie company Echo Lake with Amber Heard starring as a haunted female who lives in a mental institution. Danielle Panabaker, Mamie Gummer and Lyndsy Fonseca also star in the film.

"The Ward" is Carpenter's first directing job since 2001's "Ghosts of Mars." Other credits include "Christine", "The Thing", "Assault on Precinct 13", "Big Trouble In Little China" and "The Fog".
