For 200 million years alligators have ruled the swamp, this summer they have company. And so begins the latest in The Syfy Channel’s line of brilliant or truly awful movies, depending on your point of view. Personally any film that has this line it is worthy of high praise indeed
“This isn’t a normal shark....it swims, it kills and it’s out there!!!!!!!!!!”

That’s right folks all those sharks in the sea are abnormal, not that I would ever say that to one of them face to face, what with all those sharp teeth and all.

If you ignore the fact that is a SyFy film, then it’s actually not that bad, but when you factor in the fact that this is from the makers of Megashark, Mongolian Death Worm, then it’s a pretty damn good way to spend an evening.

The plot is pretty simple to explain, just take huge chunks of Jaws, transport it over to the swamp, and through in a decent number of hot young women getting their boobies out. Gator Week is almost upon the town, an annual festival that unluckily is the only thing that’s keeping the town from sinking down into the swamp. So when chewed up corpses start appearing, it’s a race to find who or what is doing it. Of course the town officials are refusing to shut the swamp. Brody, sorry I mean Rachel Broussard to save the day, armed to the teeth with lots of big firearms.

I tried counting the number of scenes that have lifted straight out of Jaws, but I ran out of fingers. Now before you start thinking damn rip off merchants I got the feeling that this film was created as tribute to Jaws, a love letter from the director to Spielberg. Yes the acting is terrible for the most part, as is the dialogue, the special effects look as though they were done in 1976, but none of these things can detract from the sheer B –Movie charm of the film.

Like Piranha 3D this is a film to enjoy with a six pack a load of friends and a big bag of chips.
