Long Pigs Movie Review

Long Pigs is a very believable gory "found footage" independent horror film that ranks up there with movies like Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project. On many levels, it's even better than those films. The plot is fresh and the special effects are top notch. This is what indie movie making is all about folks.

If you are looking for something that isn't a Hollywood remake and one that will make you cringe during certain scenes, do yourself a favor and check out this gem.

The film by writer-directors Nathan Hynes and Chris Power has received a lot of positive responses and exposure at festivals over the last few years and has won many key awards including “Best Picture” at the Moving Image festival in Toronto; “Best Picture” and “Best Actor” at the Mockfest festival in L.A; and “Best Horror” at the International Horror & Sci-Fi Fest in Phoenix.

Synopsis:

Long Pigs is a "found footage" documentary style film made by two young film-makers who come across an interesting man named Anthony McAllister, who agrees to allow them to film all aspects of his humorously gory and violent way of life.

At first the film-makers are horrified as they get to know Anthony but even start to relate with his outlook and point of views about life and reasons for his cannibalistic way of life. Only after the film makers investigate deeper they start to question Anthony's tales about his past.

Strain arises between them as they confront Anthony about his changing stories and flip flopping philosophies. As the movie comes to its end, Anthony starts to become woefully aware of the amount of details about his life that he's opened up about to the film makers. In the last interview with Anthony, a leathal confrontation explodes and all that's left is a broken camera and the remaining footage seen in the movie.
