THE OFFICIAL 2010 FESTIVAL OF FEAR LINE-UP:
*DAVID CRONENBERG
(The Fly, The Dead Zone, Dead Ringers, Rabid, Shivers)
Perhaps the most legendary figure on the Canadian horror landscape, David Cronenberg has developed into his own institution over nearly four decades of making movies. Known as the Baron of Body Horror, Cronenberg reached the cult status with early cult hits like SHIVERS (1975) and RABID (1977) and later in THE BROOD (1979) and the head-exploding, telepathy based SCANNERS (1981). Follow up efforts included the shocking reality-morphing VIDEODROME (1983) before his breakthrough smash remake of THE FLY (1986). Prior, Cronenberg won critical acclamation with his impressive screen adaptation of Stephen King's novel THE DEAD ZONE (1983) which he followed up with DEAD RINGERS (1988) and NAKED LUNCH (1991). Cronenberg then moved from strictly being a genre movie-maker to a fully realized international recognized auteur with the provocative CRASH (1996) and in the virtual reality head-trip of EXISTENZ (1999), both of which fared well at the Cannes and Berlin Film Festivals. The turn of the century saw Cronenberg shift gears with the films SPIDER (2002), A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE (2005) and, recently, EASTERN PROMISES (2007), all of which avoid expressing his propensity for physical horror in favour of a more psychological exploration of human condition. Cronenberg is also known for his cameos in Clive Barker's NIGHTBREED (1990), Gus Van Sant's TO DIE FOR (1995), and JASON X (2001). Rue Morgue is extremely proud to announce Canadian film icon David Cronenberg as the official Guest of Honour of the 2010 Festival of Fear.
*LANCE HENRIKSEN
(Aliens, Near Dark, Pumpkinhead, Millennium)
An intense, versatile actor as adept at playing clean-cut FBI agents as he is playing psychotic motorcycle-gang leaders, who can go from portraying soulless, murderous vampires to burned-out, world-weary homicide detectives, Lance Henriksen has starred in a variety of films that have allowed him to stretch his talents just about as far as an actor could possibly hope. Henriksen starred for three seasons (1996-1999) on "Millennium" (1996/I), Fox-TV's critically acclaimed series created by Chris Carter ("The X Files" (1993)). His performance as "Frank Black", a retired FBI agent who has the ability to get inside the minds of killers, landed him three consecutive Golden Globe nominations for "Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Drama Series" and a People's Choice Award nomination for "Favorite New TV Male Star". FOX Home Entertainment has just released the first season of "Millennium" on DVD. James Cameron cast Henriksen in his first directorial effort, Piranha Part Two: The Spawning (1981), then used him in The Terminator (1984), and cast him as the android Bishop in the sci-fi classic Aliens (1986). Director Sam Raimi, who used Henriksen in his quirky western The Quick and the Dead (1995) opposite Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman, says, "Lance is a brilliant performer who goes way beyond acting. He becomes his character completely, leaving no trace of his former self and making something of every moment on screen." Henriksen's additional feature credits include what is one of his best-known roles, that of the head of a family of murderous redneck vampires in Kathryn Bigelow's cult vampire film Near Dark (1987). He's also appeared in Jagged Edge (1985), Pumpkinhead (1988), The Horror Show (1989), Survival Quest (1989), director Walter Hill's Johnny Handsome (1989), The Pit and the Pendulum (1991) (V), Bruce Robinson's Jennifer Eight (1992), Alien (1992), Richard Rush's Color of Night (1994), Powder (1995), Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man (1995), Disney's animated feature Tarzan (1999) and John Woo's first American film, Hard Target (1993), for which Henriksen received a Saturn Award as Best Supporting Actor.
SPECIAL GUESTS:
*KEN RUSSELL
(The Devils, Lair of the White Worm, Gothic, Altered States)
Ken Russell is considered one of the most prolific and influential filmmakers to come out of the United Kingdom. His talent blossomed in the 1970s with such epic and controversial films as THE DEVILS (1971), SAVAGE MESSIAH (1973) and The Who's rock opera TOMMY (1975). Russell's output in the 1980s was equally impressive and much darker with the mind-altering psychedelia of ALTERED STATES (1980), the visceral sexual sociopathy of CRIMES OF PASSION (1984), and the director's foray into period horror of GOTHIC (1986) and THE LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM. Other notable Russell films include LISZTOMANIA (1975), ARIA (1987), WHORE (1991) and MINDBENDER (1996). Ken Russell will forever be remembered as a controversial and visionary film artist with something of a third eye when it comes to making bizarre and unique films with captivating images and themes. Rue Morgue is proud to announce a very rare public appearance by film legend Ken Russell at the 2010 Festival of Fear.
*GLENN DANZIG
(Danzig, Misfits, Samhain, Verotik)
With over eight million records sold, Glenn Danzig forms one third of the dark triumvirate of horror rock and roll alongside Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath. As the formative member of the MISFITS, Danzig brought his fascination with film and comic book horror to modern punk rock; with the heavy metal-oriented SAMHAIN, Danzig further developed his dark obsessions pushed to extremes. Following the demise of Samhain, Danzig formed his own eponymous band with ex-Samhain guitarist John Christ, Eerie Von on bass, and hardcore drummer Chuck Biscuits. Danzig's talent also includes musical compositions for such projects as Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, THE X-FILES and has had his seminal hit "Mother" appear in the popular video game GUITAR HERO 2. Also, Danzig owns and operates his adult horror oriented comic book company VEROTIK. This year, Danzig is poised to unleash his first full length record in six years titled DETH RED SABOATH and the much anticipated lyric book HIDDEN LYRICS OF THE LEFT HAND illustrated by renowned artist Simon Bisley (Judge Dred, Lobo). Rue Morgue is proud to announce a very rare public appearance by Glenn Danzig at the 2010.
*BILL MOSELEY
(Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Repo! The Genetic Opera)
Bill Moseley's first big movie role was the unforgettable Chop-Top in Tobe Hooper's THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (1986). Later in his career he landed a number of small parts in horror remakes such as THE BLOB (1988), and Tom Savini's THE NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1990) before moving on to another defining performance as Otis Firefly in Rob Zombie's HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES (2003). Two years later he reprised the role in a much more vicious form for Zombie's popular THE DEVIL'S REJECTS (2005) before making appearances in GRINDHOUSE (2007) and Zombie's remake of John Carpenter's 70s masterpiece HALLOWEEN (2007). In 2008 Moseley appeared alongside Paris Hilton and Nivek Ogre in the cult horror musical REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA (2008). He also recently starred in 2001 MANIACS: THE SEQUEL (2010). Rue Morgue is proud to announce the return of Bill Moseley back by popular demand for the 2010 Festival of Fear.
*WILLIAM FORSYTHE
(Rob Zombie's Halloween, The Devil's Rejects)
William Forsythe has remained perpetually busy with a plethora of feature films including appearances in Rob Zombie's THE DEVIL'S REJECTS (2005), HALLOWEEN (2007) and the titular serial killer in the upcoming DEAR MR. GACY. One of Hollywood's best recurring villains, Forsythe cut his teeth as the legendary small time hoodlum in Sergio Leone's mob masterpiece ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA (1984) before moving on to a hilarious performance as a bumbling jail escapee alongside John Goodman in the Cohen Brothers' RAISING ARIZONA (1987). Forsythe also portrayed comic book villain Flattop in DICK TRACY (1990) and tangled with vengeful cop Steven Segal in the hyper-violent OUT FOR JUSTICE (1991). His television credits include HILL STREET BLUES (1981) and T.J. HOOKER (1982).
*HEATHER LANGENKAMP
(A Nightmare of Elm Street, Wes Craven's New Nightmare)
Heather Langenkamp is best known for her role as Nancy Thompson in A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984), a role which she reprised in A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS (1987). She subsequently went on to play herself in WES CRAVEN'S NEW NIGHTMARE (1994). Langenkamp has also appeared Craven's SHOCKER (1989) and is currently in production with Robert Englund and other cast members on a documentary about the Nightmare on Elm Street series set for release in 2010.
