‘BABYBACKS’ Turns a Sonoran Desert Escape Into a Survival Horror Nightmare

Black Mandala has unveiled BABYBACKS, a new survival horror thriller from director Geno Marx that takes a desperate journey across the Sonoran Desert and twists it into something far more sinister.
The film follows young lovers Zoe and Mateo, who flee ruthless cartel hitmen and cross the scorching desert in search of a new life in America. Their situation becomes critical when Mateo suffers a serious injury, leaving the couple exhausted, exposed and running out of options.
Help arrives in the form of an older couple who offer them shelter inside their isolated rural home. The apparent refuge soon begins to feel like another kind of prison, forcing Zoe and Mateo into a brutal struggle to escape the very people who seemed to save them.
Blending psychological horror, social tension and raw survival thrills, BABYBACKS moves from the open hostility of the desert into the suffocating confines of captivity.
The cast includes Viridiana Márquez (Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire), Melissa Chambers (Dark Winds, Mayfair Witches), Ryan Rathbun (Oppenheimer, Babylon) and Ray Acevedo (American Sicario).
Marx directs from a screenplay written with Kent Rodricks. The film also stars Alfred Gonzales, Juliana Philippi, AB Phoenix, Peter Lucas and J Diego Gonçalves, with cinematography by Frank Buono.
BABYBACKS is produced by Geno Marx, Tara Tovarek and Derick Pritchard and is represented internationally by Black Mandala.
