Indonesian genre master Joko Anwar is back, and he’s bringing something vicious.
The official trailer for his new action‑horror thriller GHOST IN THE CELL has just dropped, giving fans a first look at a high‑security prison where gang warfare, corruption, and something far more sinister collide. The film storms into U.S. theaters October 2, 2026, and if the trailer is any indication, audiences are in for a claustrophobic, blood‑slicked ride.
The footage teases a fortress‑like penitentiary ruled by rival factions and a warden whose cruelty is legendary. But when a mysterious new inmate arrives, the prison’s fragile balance shatters. Bodies begin appearing in grotesque, ritualistic displays, and panic spreads as inmates realize the killer may not be human at all. Forced into uneasy alliances, they must confront an invisible, otherworldly predator stalking the cellblocks with murderous intent.
GHOST IN THE CELL blends Anwar’s signature atmospheric dread with bursts of chaotic action and dark humor, all set against the grim reality of a prison where no one is safe. The cast includes Abimana Aryasatya, Almanzo Konoralma, Aming Sugandhi, Arswendy Bening Swara, Bront Palarae, and Dimas Danang Suryonegoro, with Tia Hasibuan producing.
