Award-winning supernatural horror film NEVER AFTER DARK is heading to theaters September 25, bringing with it some serious festival momentum and a haunting new spin on the familiar ghost-story setup.
The film won the SXSW Midnighter Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for Feature Film at the Overlook Film Festival.
NEVER AFTER DARK stars SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Award winner Moeka Hoshi (Shōgun) as Airi, a wandering medium who has devoted her life to helping restless spirits leave the world of the living behind.
Her latest assignment takes her to an isolated country house, where she encounters a grotesque apparition whose abilities fall far outside anything she has faced before.
As Airi begins digging into the history of the house, buried secrets start surfacing and the nature of the threat changes. Soon, she finds herself hunted by something considerably harder to understand than a restless spirit.
This time, the most dangerous presence in the house may still have a pulse.
Writer-director Dave Boyle assembles a cast that also includes Kento Kaku (House of Ninjas), Kurumi Inagaki (House of Ninjas), Mutsuo Yoshioka (Chime), Bokuzo Masana (Tokyo Vice) and Tae Kimura (All Around Us).
The premise gives NEVER AFTER DARK an intriguing hook: a protagonist already comfortable navigating the supernatural suddenly discovers that her knowledge of ghosts offers little protection when human motives enter the equation.
NEVER AFTER DARK opens in theaters September 25.
